Just wondering since they are both in the same price category roughly.

Is the AF on the DIII better?

Is the IQ better on the DIII?

ect.

What do you think? I am debating between a 5DIII and a 1DIV to to replace my 7D.

It would depend on what your shooting? Your trying to compare a FF camera and a 1.3 cropped camera? If your just trying to replace the 7D then I would go with the 1D Mark IV.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Just my opinion based on one night of lacrosse shooting but I would say yes to both. Check out my thread here: https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1163659

I agree. Me too.

Now I sold my 5Dii and I guess I will get a 5Diii now. The 1Div can't focus in low light to save itself from the wall.

Which is it, "Happy" with 1DMkIV or it "can't focus in low light........"?
Totally contradictory statements.
Unless of course you are happy that it, "can't focus in low light........"!

Howz about we get an answer to the original question. Time will tell, I'm also interested in the 5DIII to 1DIV and/or 1DX comparison.

Yep I checked out his DPreview threat (there are some *******s over there) and checked out the 100% crops.

I think I am getting the 5DmK III as I dont need 10fps (I am not a pro sports guy, and I have taken some good stuff with the 7D), but I do shoot some weddings and the ISO performance is fantastic.

Well time to order on the first. Cant wait.

I think you are splitting hairs with a MKIV and a 5D3 comparisons.

First off, there not enough info yet to make any decision. 2nd,, IQ wise and Iso's are going to be so close that you would really really have to click into 100-150 % to see any difference if these and thats going to be a big IF at all. 3rd, there are differences in body quality and features from the MKIV that would make me choose it over the 5D3.

5D3 probably has an edge in low light focus dept.....but Myself and many others dont have an issue with what the MKIV can do in low light. The issue is only present in very low light with slower shutter speeds. Problem for some, not so much a problem for others.

4TH-- who cares. They are both light years ahead of what we had just 3 yrs ago.

5th------ 1Dx will blow them all away

We are looking at it from different perspectives.

By replacing my 7D with the 1Div I have been very happy because the 1Div smokes the 7D. However, there is always room for improvement, I sold my 5Dii, which had better low light focusing so now there is a new void in total package performance.

So vs the 7D, happy ever since. But, since selling my 5Dii, there is a new gap. It's not like the 7D was good at low light focusing either, it was even worse.

I agreed with a post that said 1Div vs 7D, 1Div is better (duh). I didn't specifically say that myself. I amended the thought in my own post due to slightly different circumstances compared to the post I quoted. It really shouldn't be that hard to figure out unless you just woke up on the wrong side of the bed and have nothing better to do than to call into question a neutral post that really has nothing to do with you, personally....
