It's really nice to finally get out the gym and shoot some outdoor sports; especially since the weather here in central Indiana has been more June-like than March-like.

Since I didn't have any newspaper assignments, I took the opportunity to have a low-pressure situation to get rid of the rust and get some practice in before things start getting hectic.

C&C always welcome and appreciated.

Scott,
I wish it would stop snowing and raining here so we could get some games in. These all look pretty good as is the norm with your stuff.
Looks like some harsh mid day sun though, but I would take it at this point.
I really like 6,7 and 8 love the intense eyes here. #4,5 and 6 are great too, my only nit is it looks like 4 and 5 may be a bit soft either motion blur or perhaps just missed a little on focus point (could be my old eyes which I curse more every day now), and I may have cropped 6 a bit tighter and not at the knees.
All minor and I havent shot any SB or BB this season so take it with a grain of salt.
Thanks for sharing these.

Jeff,

Thanks for the feedback. You're right about 4&5, 4 is soft and 5 is really soft, but I liked the expression so that's why I posted it. Good call on the crop on #6...that one is actually just as it was in camera with no cropping at all. It is a bit awkward around her knees/legs. Here's another crop along with an extreme crop of her face...I like the reflections in her sunglasses with the ball on one side and the glove on the other.

Thanks a lot. Just read, study and PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE! I read as much as I possibly can on this forum, Sportsshooter, Fred Miranda in addition to all of the books I have. I look at the stuff I shot 3 years ago and see the difference the work and studying has made. However, I'm nowhere near where I want to be and still have so much to learn. I want to be much more consistent, learn how to "see" and find new ways of shooting to get a different look. Sometimes I feel like I'm in a bit of a rut and need to really find a way to challenge myself. I'm definitely thinking about applying to the Sports Shooter Academy (external link) if I can work up the nerve. I don't know if I'd get accepted or not since I'm not really a full-time shooter, but I'd like to give it a shot anyway.

I like your close-up style of shooting. You frame your shots very well. Nice work.
