How would they attach to your rig (ie does your rig use the standard 15mm rod structure?) and how much is "cheap" to you?

Sorry guys been WAAAAY out of the loop for a bit. Anyways...... yes. I have 15mm rails and can do a number of configurations.

Thanks for the help so far!

EDIT: Cheap is maybe $50 to add the grips to the front of my rig. So far I have done pretty well for keeping the price of my rig down. Its not the greatest but it works for a ameture rig.

Can I ask you what all you have in that rig and how much it ran you?

I'm looking at something identical to that, but I am on a tight budget (maybe $1000...MAYBE).

I notice you have no follow focus?

EBay! Search 15mm handle, 15mm shoulder, etc. You will find a range of options.

Kechar- the rig is a Proaim 6" DSLR Rig. You can grab them from about $150. The mattebox is the cheap $30ish dollar matte box also on ebay. With that matte box though a 77mm lens will not fit through it. The inner diameter of the matte box is supposed to be 77mm so there is no play to allow the lens to slide through. I simply picked up some sand paper and smoothed it down until the lens slid through.... works great. The lilliput monitor was about $200 and they say it play 1080 but I cant figure it out... so right now Im rocking it at 480... works well with allowing me to get focus and see everything SOOO much easier than the LCD screen. I do have a follow focus system, its just not on the rig at the time I took the photo. I have a follow focus for my zoom and focus. All and all the entire rig ran me less than $500 and works VERY well. Its not top dollar but it gets the job done well (for being tripod mounted). To go shoulder mounted you will need to hunt down a few accessories... like Im doing now.

Charles, talk a look on Amazon for DSLR Rigs. I found some very nice, foam padded grips with a 1/4-20 stud for mounting to a simple connector, clamp, block thingie like this:

http://www.amazon.com …8&qid=1334683391&sr=8-132 (external link)

or this one:

http://www.amazon.com …8&qid=1334683488&sr=8-150 (external link)

Or there is this handle that comes with a 15mm rail clamp built in:

http://www.amazon.com …8&qid=1334683701&sr=8-207 (external link)

Just search all the offerings from Amazon under DSLR Rigs, it's fairly amazing what they have and at some nice prices.

CHAS- thanks, Thats not too bad actually. The hard part for me was trying to find the correct keywords to pull up exactly what I was looking for. I found something on ebay that I think will fit the bill but I am about to move cross-country so its put on hold for the moment :(

Yeah, internet searches are all about using the right key words. There are a lot of pages on that Amazon search, full of interesting bits and parts. Pretty much everything one would need to build a rig.

Front end grips are something where quality is important. I went the cheap foam handle route and am now regretting it as they flex. As a result they don't inspire confidence.

That said they were good to establish if I wanted handles at all. I have been using them somewhat less recently but they are a useful add on when required. A tripod should always be the first option over hand held though.

For my next big hand held job I'll be getting the LPT handles Like these (external link) all LPT gear seems reasonably high quality without being excessively expensive.
