i have a scandisk ultra 30MB's 8GB card

all of the pictures show up just fine on the 7D, however when i plug the card into the card reader its a NO go.
i figured the reader was bad, so i went down and bought another one, still a no go.

if the files are bad, why would they show up on the camera?

any ideas?
I'm gonna take the card down to Costco and see if they can read it and put the pics on a cd for me.
i really dont want to format it before i get the pictures.
is there some type of a setting that i could have changed in camera to label the pictures as "protected' ??
at this point i'm lost

I'm assuming you have Windows on your computer; if it's a Mac, someone else will need to chime in. When you put the card in the reader, does any kind of selection window pop up in Windows asking you what default program to use? Does anything happen at all? Have you checked Explorer or Computer (depending on Windows version) to see if the card is showing up as an external memory drive/device? Can you verify that the card reader is being powered by the USB connection (indicating that it's not a USB connection issue)? Have you tried plugging the card reader into a different USB connector on the computer (sometimes USB connections seem to stop working for no apparent reason)?

Some Canon stuff and a little bit of Yongnuo.

It may be that the USB cable is bad or that the USB port is bad. The answer to the last question above should tell you that. Try another USB port.

Is the card reader plugged in? Do you have another computer you can try this on?

I have a Mac, and it's pretty simple, plug in my Kingston reader and it works.

Did you try connecting the camera to the computer via USB (instead of taking out the memory card)?

i have tried it on two computers, and no go.
i was able to get them off when plugged the memory card into the printer.
usb's are working fine when i plug in a different kind of card into the reader.

something is kinda funny because i took it down to costco, and they were able to draw only 3 pictures off of the card.
so after i got my pictures i did a format via the camera, and fired off some shots. i tried the reader again, and i had no luck at all.....
i think sunpak must be crap. is it a possibility that some of the files went bad when the sunpak tried to read the card at first and was unable to? i still cant figure out why costco was unable to retrieve all of the pictures and later on i was able too from my printer....
the only thing i did was deleted a couple of movies that i had on there. and it seemed to work. weird!

so at this point i still need to get a different brand card reader and give that i shot.

for those that asked, i am running windows vista.

Are they jpeg or RAW? If they are raw you need to download a codec for Windows to be able to read them.

i have download pictures many many many times. i always shoot in raw.
the problem is that the card reader is not even recognizing the memory card.

I had the exact same problem with my Sandisk 32gb class 10 card in my 60D...the SECOND time I used it.

When I got my 60D, I bought the Sandisk card indicated above and in all my excitement, forgot to FORMAT it once I put it in the camera! (I guess that makes me Dirty Harry). I also forgot to buy an SDHC reader, so went to Walmart and bought a cheapo. It worked fine. So then, when I put it back in the camera, I formatted it. Took some pix, used the same reader, and my Windows XP computer with all the updates on it didn't even recognize that anything was even plugged in! So I resorted to putting the card back in the camera (where I could see all the pix) and used the "cable connection" to get all the pictures on my computer.

I then ordered a SANDISK brand SDHC reader at Amazon.com. Put my card into it (I didn't format it after putting it back into the camera) and plugged it into my USB port. Worked perfectly! So I bought another SANDISK reader, just in case I lose the first one!

I would think one reader brand is no different than another, but who knows? I figured with Sandisk' reputation of "works first time, every time, all the time" (my absolute requirement!) in my experience with 8-10 CF cards in past years, getting the Sandisk reader couldn't fail. And, of course, it worked perfectly!

Now I format the cards when I put them back into the computer (when I remember..getting old sucks!), pop them into the reader when I want to transfer the pix to my computer, and everything works fine!

what do you actually see?

When you plug the card into the reader and reader into the USB port, it should show up as a drive. Do you see this?

If it shows up as a drive, do you see the files? Do you see thumbnails?

If you can see files or thumbnails, is the problem when you try to open one?

If you can't even see the drive, it could simply be a bad card or reader. If the shop couldn't see the files, then more than likely it's a bad card (since they didn't use your reader).

If the card shows up in Windows, right click it and format the card. Then try to copy any file to it and see if it appears.

when i go into my computer i can see the card reader and all of the empty drives in the reader, the memory card is in, but the sunpak reader will not recognize it.

so after trying TWO sunpak card reader's with fail>>> i went down and bought a Targus card reader and all of my problems went away.
YAY ME!!!

i still cant explain why costco could not see any of the files.
not unless they can process RAW?
i did have a couple of JPEGS on there too.

Do they have a camera shop in COSTCO or is buying equipment just like buying toilet paper? We don't have one up here.
