Since this is more of a "Tips and Tricks" thread specifically for aviation but not specific to showing images from any specific event(s), I'm hoping Frank will allow it to live here and we can grow a data base of ideas.
Found a big one today! LR4 has expanded the Brush Tool to include Color Temp and Tint and with the improvement in how LR4 auto masks, I was able to make a correction that has bedeviled me for a while.
Ok, so you catch a nice shot but you're shooting slightly up-sun leaving the side facing you in shade. How to adjust the subject without altering the sky or ground? Well, you could mask off the plane and mess around with layers for the surroundings in Photoshop. Or, you could try and "fake" your way to a better balance with gradients in LR3.x
Here's our problem child. Note the sickly bluish/purplish/magentaish color of the fuselage?
A couple of key settings in the new Brush Tool and pass it along the fuselage and nacelles and...
Note the more natural looking reflections from the pavement and dirt. A little more "depth" to the details and a generally more pleasing tone in general...
Settings:
+15 Color Temp
-4 Tint (green helps neutralize magenta)
.10 Exposure
50 Contrast
10 Shadows
20 Clarity
10 Saturation
10 Sharpness
