Seems like every change from the raw file moving over to the HDR-file. Image hosted by forum (587437) © PeterWem [SHARE LINK] THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. Here's one I took on the first day I had mine. This was out at the Marin Headlands. This is the JPEG straight out of the camera (albeit downsized) Image hosted by forum (588783) © bikeboynate [SHARE LINK] THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. The in-camera version is almost identical to the middle exposure - bringing out little detail in the shadows or clouds. Not a great example, but you can see the in-camera HDR does not do much with the interior/shadow area. Going to Art Standard brings out more of the shadow area, but begins to give a very unnatural look to the photo. Note - the photomatix version would be further processed to make it more natural, just thought it would be more helpful to show the default version. With higher dynamic range scenes, the in-camera HDR does little to "blend" the images - something like True HDR on the iPhone seems to do a much better job. In most cases, I've found the HDR image is not much different from the 0EV exposure unless you step up the scale HDR processing scale to the more extreme settings which look quite unnatural. Sharon

Jan 16, 2013 17:41 | #12 Not impressed by results with in-camera HDR. Maybe it's just me, but HDR generated from same raw files used in-camera to come up with HDR image used with Photomatix are MUCH better. The concept of in-camera HDR is appealing, but maybe I need to spend more time figuring out the settings. On the other hand, Photomatix always does a good job for me, so why bother?
