I normally compress files using a certain program, however it doesn't compress .mov files . What're some programs used to compress .mov files? Thanks in advance.

Do you mean compress them to make the file size smaller for emailing? Like zip files?

Also it helps to let us know what OS you are using.

Handbrake.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

Handbrake is good, but the correct way to do it is transfer the videos from your camera to the hard drive and then open them in the video editing software and do whatever you want to do to that video to make it better and then let the editing software do the compressing.

Actually, I was thinking about this. Editing the clips/movies (what ever term you like) in Sony Vegas and then saving the file. I can't remember but it does convert it in to a different file in which I can compress entirely, correct?

Yes and the editing softwares have lots of different setting to choose when saving the file.

The best/fastest method I've used is Quicktime Pro 7. It's actually faster than Compressor and FCP.

Export your FCP timeline as a Quicktime move (not quicktime compression). This should take under a minute since there is no compression going on. Then open that file in QT Pro and export it 1280x720 for web with the bitrate anywhere between 5000 - 9,000 depending on how big you want it to be.

I don't understand that at all. Handbrake is free and will do that plus it has many presets.

Preference, I guess. I don't like handbrake because it's slow and I don't see any use for presets because they're often not the best quality you could be getting. QT Pro has given me the best image quality of the bunch, and it's fastest.

This is not my experience. On my 12-core Mac Pro, Handbrake uses all 12 cores and hyperthreading, while QT Pro only uses 4 cores and no hyperthreading.

What do you intend to do with the files? Post on YouTube, etc.?
