I'm having a tough time deciding which way to go, here's the background information, the heaviest thing I have is a Mola Euro (12 lbs) with an B1600 (3.7 lbs) so 15.7 lbs
From all that I've been reading the Avenger D600 (external link) would work just fine, rated at 15.4 lbs, so I was thinking of getting that and an Avenger A0045CS (external link), rated at 55.1 lbs. Then I realized that I could get the Avenger A4050CS (external link) which the maximum load is 17.7 lbs.

I just don't know which way to go... for either both I'm going to get an E700 for sure, would it be better to get a tough stand and a mini boom or the junior boom.
Another thing that makes it difficult to decide is that both will cost almost the same.

Any ideas? recommendations or experience here? thanks!

I am waiting for delivery of an A4039CS. I went round and round about the A4050CS and decided that the weight of the A4050CS was probably more than I would enjoy hauling on location. My second choice was the A0045CS and the D600. There are a number of posts on the board regarding the Avenger Booms.

Regards,

110yd

Thanks 110yd, I read them almost all but I couldn't find some specifics about that setup, I'm thinking location as well but mostly studio, that's why I'm considering the A0045CS, I also thought of the A0035CS, http://www.bhphotovideo.com …5CS_Baby_Steel_Stand.html (external link) but the maximum load is not that much and it's some cents more expensive than the A0045CS, that's odd.
The A4039CS has a maximum of 13.2 lbs extended so it won't work for me, I don't think I'll ever extend it all the way but I never know if I'd need to.

@windpig, that boom arm is only 13.2 lbs :( won't work that well for my 15.7 lbs "little beast"

@Jay. yes, I'm pretty set on Avenger but I can't decide which one so far :(

Ouch, you're right. It's got a 15lb. counter weight, so I would be pushing it, maybe. I'm using Elinchrom Ranger Speed pacs, I forget that others are using studio lights in the field.

Those Rangers are nice and handy, some day for me :) but  between the two options I have, the D600 + A0045CS or the A4050CS, which one would you get?

Boy, I'd really have to play with both.
I didn't read this whole thing, but maybe it would add something if you've not seen it before.

Thank you so much for the link! I'm reading the other thread here now, no wonder I didn't find that much about the A4050CS since it used to be the A700 and it never occurred to me to search for the A700 over here...
That thing is huge!!

The A4050CS is the boom you buy once and never need to replace. It's also great piece of mind when you have expensive gear out on the end of it and a person underneath it.

Regarding the Manfrotto boom arm. The max weight is going to be based on the max length of the boom. Using is at 6, instead of 9' should allow a load of more than the stated. It's just really nice to have lightweight equipment where you can.

The weight of the Avenger stand is nice because in lessens the need for sandbags.

Yes, I was actually thinking of that, my studio is 14' wide and the footprint for the A4050CS is 4.4', the legs might get in the way, while the A0045CS is only 3.75' and that maximum load sounds very appealing.
I was also thinking that the D600 would be long enough, it extends up to 7' which I won't be using fully extended.
The A4050CS is something I'd really like to get but after seeing it and measuring my space, I think I'm inclining now for the stand + boom combo.

I have another question, what about c-stands? I've seen them used on Molas and heavy things, just not fully extended, I also read that they are not meant for heavy things, mostly for props, reflectors, gobos, things like that, would those be worth looking into?

The Avenger C Stand I have is very robust. Easily handling my 72" indirect. I'd have no problem putting a WELL BALANCED boom on it. But I wouldn't use it out in the field with or without a boom.
