Congrats! Beats hell out the other stories on here from all the keyboard cowboys who claim they regularly lie to their spouses about their gear purchases.

+1. Jay, I get the impression you are or were military. I myself was a reservist, Navy then Air Force, for 34 years. I heard, on many occasions, other reservists claim their wives didn't know how much they were getting paid for their duty, or even that they were at all. Never struck me as the way to run a marriage.

That was nice of your wife. Now it's time for you to show off with some pictures. :)

As cold as this sounds, I must say that this is the way my marriage works. We have a bill account which the bills are paid from and our own personal accounts were we can buy what we want. I've spent about 3 grand in the past year on this hobby and has never cleared it with my hubby. He did ask one time how much I've spent, I told him, he looked at me like I was crazy and laughed.

lol , I also think it's crazy that she is obsessed with purses but my rule is the important things are paid for first then our silly obsessions. Of course camera gear isnt silly only purses lol.

Here are a few pic of our favorite subjects that we always agree upon.

Thank You for your Service...

I was born too late for SE Asia and too Early for the current issues in the Middle East. My later Father however, was 5th Army in Italy in WWII and I like to think I absorbed many of the best virtues from that generation.

I am though, pretty much by fiat, steeped in the traditions and values of our Military and I thank all that is Holy that we have the outstanding men and women who serve today.

So what's the point? I just really wanted to share with the world (At least this small POTN portion of it) how amazing my wife is. Now I just need to get comfortable with the new camera before the wedding I have next weekend.

Let me add my congratulations as well. You do have an awesome wife. *And* as a bonus, you also ended up with an awesome camera. :D

+1. I know some guys who I don't know how they get away with the lies and multiple thousands of dollars in camera purchases that they hide from their wives. Its good to hear about some good ole honest feel good stuff once in a while.

congrats op, and i hope to be enjoying the 5d3 next week :)

Yes it could never the be that many wives are unapproachable and are not ever supportive of anything THEY do not value. Most people would rather not lie about things to people they love, but sometimes in order to have a life that is happy and fulfilling you have to get some separation. I would not be surprised if that for every husband that lied about a purchase there was a harpy wife that did not value the husbands happiness.

Fair warning... Long story.

Great story. I posted this elsewhere but I had a similar jaw-on-the-floor with my wife.

Back when the 1Dx was announced I started talking to her about my desire to update the 5D2 and started raving about the specs of the 1Dx. In the end she asked, as expected, how much it was going to cost. I told her fully expecting the follow-up "in your dreams buster" comment. Instead she responded with "so I get your old one, right?" :D

My 1Dx remains on pre-order... (come on Canon!)
