More light and less shadow from the hat. Some separation from the BG would probably help too.

I like it, but it I would like it more if it wasn't quite so dark.

Just getting back into it..

Need more face...how about moving the glove down to reveal the nose?

Thanks guys, pretty much dealing with a makeshift studio (Desklamp with looseleaf taped over it to diffuse, shooting in front of a black curtain) :-P I tried again with another desk lamp on the other side to light up both sides of my face. How's this one?

Of the 2 posted I prefer the first one, as mentioned I just wish it had some BG separation.

I edited the first post with the first picture with a little bit of separation. I don't want to overdo it and make it too bright but I'm struggling with the balance.

Ehh, by separation, it would have been nice to have a light (@ low power) behind the subject; basically creating an outline around him, which would separate him from the background, rather than blending into it. Your edit definitely began to separate the camera right side of the image, but the camera left side still gets lost - nothing wrong with it at all, just a comment.

While this is more [LIght] than I would have expected for your shot, this is the idea (found via Google search): http://pacoromerophoto.com …04_Jamie_223_8x10_web.jpg (external link)
For your image, I prefer the small separation as depicted in the camera right of the image linked. I think it would have been nice if you could have got something similar on your subject's right side (camera left).

I'm confused... Did you remove the catch light from his eyes? You'll really want to keep that there. It tends to create a connection with the viewer. First photo has it, the others do not.
