a head or L plate?

which to get? i've been having some creep issue when i put the my gear on my dolica when it's on the side taking portrait orientation. the head creeps like crazy.

i thought about getting a Giottos MH1300-657, but after seeing the RSS video about the L plate, i was thinking maybe getting a L plate would do the trick instead of getting a new head.

my friend suggested me to get this L plate, which is very similar to the RSS L plate.

my only beef with this is that i'm not sure if it will fit my 5D2 with grip.

what would you suggest? head or L plate?

L Plate makes life so much easier, even you can mount on not-so-strong heads.
I mount 5Dc + Lplate + Tamron 70-300 Vc comfortably on Horusbennu LX3 head. No problem.
My vote for L plate.

that's what i was thinking as well.. going this route, i wouldn't have to change heads.

I've got L's on my bodies, they work well. Mine are RRS.

An L plate will help to alleviate head droop when camera is in Portrait position (rather than using the drop slot), but only a new head (or tripod mounting bracket on the lens) will alleviate head droop when a long lens is mounted on the camera! And if you want long lens on camera in Portrait orientation, you need both.

RRS or Kirk L plate! I have RRS. The one linked appears not to have "accessory door access".

I'd recommend a better head. Like Wilt says, the L bracket will help in portrait orientation, but only when the ball stem is perfectly vertical. If the head creeps, it will still creep with an L bracket. If you only shoot straight on, then it might not make a difference to you.

yea, the link for the sunway version doesn't have the accessory door access, which is sucks. but right now they are in the process of making the one for 5D2 with battery grip. so hopefully they'll keep that in mind when they design.

i thought about just getting a new head to just be happy with it.. so i had my mind set on the Giottos MH1300-657. my boss has the RSS for his D3 and looks very rock solid!

guess i'll just have to save up for both the L plate and the head.
