Here's an old photo of mine recently converted to B and W. What do you think of the conversion?

I like the conversion Dave. Pretty cool looking shot. Would you care to share the color version as well?

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Very nice, Dave. That's a great hike through there.

Ask and you shall receive....

The Color Version

The light really wasn't right for this photo. Taken at a different time of day it could be spectacular. As is, it required ton of photoshop.

Thanks, but I don't like the color of the background mountains. They look purple. They were black in real life. I could never get the correct color in photoshop.

Beautiful shot, Dave.

Here's a version with black mountains made by selecting them and desaturating 50%.
I set the white point as well.

Tupe, that's excelent! Thanks! I'm going to start from scratch and edit the orginal again. Recently I installed Photoshop CS on my computer and I just bought a photoshop book. I'm trying a more scientific approach to photoshop. For three years my photoshop technique has been nothing but trial and error. I reached a sort of platue on the photoshop learning curve and figured I needed to make a change. After just two days with CS I am totally inspired. I never relized how subtle and controling PS can be.
