Crop or Wide? Also, can you identify where this is?

This is a church in Germany. I know it is in Stuttgart (or near by) and I am wondering if the crop works best, or if the wide view looks best.

The crop narrows the image down to the area of interest, but the wide gives a little more context, and, to my eyes, natural framing.

Any preference?

Wide:

St. Johannes church on the Feuersee, Stuutgart.

I like them both but I like the wide more, at least with the processing.

The wide looks best to me but you need to correct for lens distortion noticeable on the left building.

Thanks for the heads up on the location. I had tried to Google "Stuutgart", "church", and "moat" without any luck.

Okay then, that is two for the wide view. I cropped for fear that there was just too much extraneous stuff competing for attention. It was only later, that I began to notice that the river/moat gave the shot a nice horizontal flow.

You're definitely right about the building on the left though. I will definitely address that.

One other thing, in retrospect I wish that I had removed the electrical pole wires from the color version before I converted the shot to mono. Now if I want to print color version looks like I'm going to go through that hassle all over again!

The wide shot looks the best. In the cropped version, the narrow spires make the church look like it has been compressed horizontally.

I definitely prefer the wide angle. For me the weeping willows distract from the church a little bit. As you have image editing ok I very quickly cropped how I would crop for the wall. I love the sepia edit

Cropped, but crop a bit more off the left to remove the 1/2 of the tree that's remaining. In the wide version, the building on left looks as if it ready to topple over and draws interest away from the main subject, left edge also need cleaning up. I'd also try to "fix" the main church tower...it too is off vertical.

I'm with crop, I agree what said ^^^ In the wide angle one I feel the building on the camera left is competing for attention

I would crop but from the left to (1) eliminate the building on the left and (2) place the subject building off center. The tree on the right adds a lot to the interest of the photo and draws the eye in. The color version is much better IMO.

Thank you all for your input. I have started fresh with a rework of the original shot, fixing the perspective and leaning, and several other adjustments - then did a sepia conversion from that. I have posted the new versions in thier own thread. It can be found here:
