OK, so I'm going FF, I have a 50L and the 70-200 f4IS. So do I get the 17-40 or the 24-105? Price is not a concern.

I'm personally favouring the 17-40 at the moment, but I'm interested to hear from other people who have made this choice one way or the other.

Bear in mind I love the 50L and will likely spend 50% of my shooting using the 50L for street / portrait / general, then the rest split evenly between other lenses, including a 100 macro.

I shoot a fair amount of landscape and rarely shoot wider than about 20mm so don't really need the 17 end, but maybe I'll prove myself wrong...

I'd definitely go with the 17-40. The gaps between it and 50mm and between 50mm and 70mm are pretty insignificant. The 17-40 would be particularly useful for landscape shot, IMO.

In fact, when I first switched to Canon ten + years ago, I bought four lenses: 17-35/2.8L, 70-200/2.8L IS, 300/2.8L IS and 500/4L IS, plus a 1.4X. I was good to go for a while with just those four, but have added a few other lenses here and there over the years.

if those are the two options 17-40. I just ditched my 17-40 and got the the 24L and am not looking back.

As usual it all depends on your style.

i am going to get a wider prime in the future.

The 24-104 should be considered because its the best one lenses solution when you can't take all your gear.

Thats my 2 cents.

Nikon D850 and a bunch of stuff, I have learned a lot here when I was shooting Canon, staying to keep learning..."Every time I set up I learn something new".

The 17-40L really gets it done. There are times when I could switch to my 35L when taking landscapes with the 17-40L, but I don't. So I think that says a lot...

(it might also say I'm lazy though..)

Woh, many different views here. 3 for the 17-40, 2 for the 24-70 and the rest primes or a mixture. Maybe I should wait and see what the 24 IS is like, that could be a good solution as I have no need for the 1.4 of the 24L... but then of course there's the new 24-70 coming out, albeit at a huge price...

17-40 is an excellent value for the money, if price is not a concern why not get the 16-35?
