i have a 1Ds2 and a 5D2, but i think i want the 5D3 for the extra ISO performance

EDIT: buy 5D3 then, sell 1Ds2 or keep both?

i only really need 2 full frame bodies BUT:
the 1Ds2 is not gonna have much resale value here, but i find the ISO limiting so i only use it outdoors and with flash (it might still be worth it to have 1k worth backup FF body). the 5D3 has equal to or better AF tech (i hope).

the 5D2 i'd like to keep for it's ISO performance and I already have a focusing screen for it, so i'd like to pair it with my MF 50mm.

granted, i'll wait for the price of the 5D3 to stabilize below the "i've got to be the first to get one phase" (i'll pick it up once it hovers at 3k).

but i'd like to bounce ideas for my camera body path ... keep all 3? sell 1Ds2 now or wait til i get the 5D3? don't get the 5D3?
i've also been used to using the center point and recomposing (bad 5D2 habit) which i have brought over to the 1Ds2 where i don't bother to use the other focus points as well.

i am doing wedding. using 5d2 and 1ds2 as well. recently the 5d2 was sent for repair - shutter issue.
this left me thinking of getting a 3rd camera.
5d2 ISO is enuff for the wedding i am doing but of course the more the better.
2 card slots are always handy - backup is a concern for 5d2
you will know that in outdoor good light, 1ds2 rules over 5d2 for AF. Hence I guess 5d3 will be good for superb AF at low light + high ISO which cant be done with 1ds2 and 5d2.

relate to your qn, if you are doing wedding like me, u should keep the 1ds2. it is a chucky camera, huge. it makes me look pro to outsiders.

center pt and recompose is a bad habit when using it with 35L @ 1.4 with close subject

btw, i like to get 1 5d3 but dun think it is worth the $ now... :(

Although it would be great to have the 5D3, unless you need the high ISO capability I don't think it is worth the $$$ if you already have the 1DS2 and 5D2. I did not upgrade nor feel the need to upgrade. Maybe when they release the next batch of upgrades, I will.:)

You'd get the ISO bump with the 5D3, I'd say that's a good upgrade. A 5d2 and 5d3 would make a very nice combo.

Im actually think the 5d3 AF might be better than mine 1ds2... still need more time with it though.

My plan is to consolidate and sell my 1Ds2 and 5D2 for the 5D3. I'll still have my 7D for the extra 'reach' too.

At the moment, I'm still waiting for Amazon to figure out whether the 5D3 has even been released yet. Once I receive the new camera, it'll be time to sell the other two. (about 6,500 actuations on the 1Ds2 and 585 on the 5D2 ;) )

1) is there something the 1Ds2 still does better than the 5D3 (except for looks)?
2) do i just keep the 1Ds2 if it would only net me 1k USD

Sell the 1Ds2 now and get one more 5D II. Don't get the 5D3

hey! yeah, it's not a question of IF but a WHEN :)
but seriously, it's the 1Ds2 that i'm asking about if it's worth keeping if one has a 5D2/5D3

i didn't get a second 5D2 because i want something with more ISO performance (improvement, not status quo ...)

Don't get me wrong Mike, I love my 1Ds2 but I'm looking forward to having another camera that shares features with my 7D, uses the same battery, takes up less real estate in my bag but still gives me the features I enjoy from my 1Ds2, such as 7 exposure bracketing.

i could work with more ISO ... and i don't like (don't know how) the extra PP of NR

i never develop my pictures bigger than 8x10, but i do use them for my PC wallpaper ... the noise from this bothers me a lot: (or the 5D3 is bothering me a lot, either way ...)

that's just 3200 (i don't go higher than 3200 on the 5D2 and 1600 on the 7D/1Ds2/600D unless i really need the shot, which is rare since i'm just a hobbyist).

I shot with similar cameras to you, but use Nik's Difine 2 (http://www.niksoftware.com/dfine/en/entry.php (external link)) on most of my images. I know there are other softwares out there but this one is worth a real look. You can get a free trial of Difine 2. The image posted would clean up very nicely.

For me, I won't need 3 DSLRs for serious hobby, I'd sell it and get a smaller cam for travel such as the G1X or S100, X100 and the likes.
Based on what I read about the 5D3, I don't think you'll miss the 1Ds2 except for the weather sealing.

:)
