Going to Joshua tree, staying in the heart of it. Anyone got photography suggestions/advice for me? Thanks

First--don't get lost! Very easy to do in JTNP. There are mounds of granite boulders everywhere that all look alike. Take a GPS.

There isn't really a need to go any further south on Pinto Basin Rd. than the Cholla Garden--save yourself some time and effort. All the action is at the north end of the park.

Sunset is better than sunrise as most features face the west and the air pollution from LA gives you great light in the evening.

Take plenty of water. Then take more.

Have a great time!

I know the wildflowers are in bloom right now. A group on meetup.com called "So Cal Photo Explorers" just went yesterday.

Thanks guys! Love your pics there Bruce. Pic #2 (sunset and tree) is amazing. Love the colors. Is cholla garden worth driving to check out? We were going to camp at White Tank...is that a good spot, compared to Belle and Jumbo Rocks? Good area? Good photo ops from there? Thanks

White Tank is very good---less crowded than others and its where Arch Rock is located. Cholla Garden is worth seeing if you're not from the desert. Jumbo Rocks is best for photograohy IMO, just really crowded with campers though. Its not far from White Tank.
