Hi guys,

I've seen a couple posts here and there about CPLs for the 15-85mm (72mm thread size). I will mostly shoot landscapes, and probably most of them will be around 15mm so I want to make sure I get the good polariser with the right mount to avoid vignetting.

Any suggestions, with samples picstures if possible?

I've looked the B&W site and am a bit confused at all the options available (Kasemann, MRC, Slim etc...)

Thank you!

I use the Hoya Pro 1 which seems to work fine. Just bear in mind that the 15-85 vignettes at the wide end even without a filter. If you use Lightroom, there is correction data for it.

I use the B+W MRC Kasemann - not the slim one. No problems with vignetting. Here's a pretty informative review on the B+W MRC CPL filter

15mm is wide enough to get uneven skies with a CPL.. you have to watch for that, unless you don't mind it that much.

Exactly. I do understand that it depends of your position relative to the sunlight, but having a CPL not slim enough or with a big mount might block light coming from the sides?

ALL CPL's will do this with any wide angle lens. It had nothing to do with not being slim enough or having a thick filter mount.

Slim filters are needed only with some very wide angle lenses to prevent vignetting in the corners. The 15-85 does not need slim filters.

Thanks... Time for some shopping :D

Thank you!

Just got the B+W F-Pro MRC CPL to use with my 15-85mm The MRC is a multicoated filter. You should definitely get multicoating on any filter. The KAESEMANN is a more expensive version of my filter with higher quality glass. There is also their digital mount range with nano technology for more money then the KAESEMANN Not sure of the practical difference. My filter's manufacturer's part # is 66-044843. Its really terrific, reasonably affordable and I believe a good match to my 15-85mm. Its made of brass and much heavier than it looks. I prefer it to the Hoya Pro ! Digital that I bought for my son's Tamron 18-270mm PZD. Besides being heavier and more solid feeling, the rotation of the B+W outer element is noticeably smoother then the HOYA.

The list price on the B+W site for my filter is $269. Presumably that's in US$. I know it can be purchased in the US for around $120 to $135. I have no idea what it would cost in Canada. Check with B&H online. Although they are located in NYC, I assume, maybe incorrectly, that they'll ship to Canada. They were charging $129 US$.

check out these (external link)tests for precisely that filter.

Given the tests, I bought the top-rated Marumi for my 15-85, even though all of my other filters are various multicoated Hoyas. I have been pleased with it. It is also slim, as an extra bonus.
