5D3 non-Canon flash compatibility

It appears that the hot shoe interface has been changed.

First, my Pocketwizard mini/flex TTL units are not recognized as ETTL. They will fire, but with no ETTL function....i.e. looks like constant full power.

I have two small Metz & Nissin flashes (~22 guide#). Neither of these work properly...mostly either do not fire or fire inconsistently....and then no ETTL.

580EX work great.

Curious if others have noticed same problem.

Not having the mk3 to test I'm not able to say for certain. I do remember that when the mini flex combo came out that it didn't work properly with every canon camera and they had to update the firmware to include different bodies. I'd say that PW is probably working on a firmware update to include the mk3 and the 1Dx.

I'll be following the thread to see how it turna out - cause I really want to buy a mk3 and love my mini flex combo.

So this is just limited to third party flashes? all other canon models are fine then?
