Have you checked out the Manfrotto geared slidebar, Brian, it makes macro stereo very easy to accomplish with the highly refined stereobases it allows. The bar would eliminate rotational errors and vertical misalignments. :!:

I do have a macrostage- Just an old Novaflex that I have used a couple of times, Unfortunately I normally use it in the wrong direction to help with the focus stacking.

Think I need some defintions here.
Rotational errors- are these introduced because I often need to rotate the camera to keep the subject in the field of view after the lateral shift? With many of my shots, I'm shooting at 2:1 and shifting the camera approx 1cm- this is enough to shift the entire FOV out of the frame if I didn't rotate the camera a bit.

Vertical Misalignment- not sure what this is.

Window violation- thought that's what happened when winxp decides to crash :)- not sure what this is.

As you can see I'm a real amateur at this :)

Vertical misalignment is essentially when on chip, or image, is higher than the other so that a point in each image which should be horizontally at the same level are not.

Rotational error is when the camera is moved around its parallel axis. They are virtually impossible to eliminate in the freehand cha-cha method used by you. They can be corrected in a program like SPM.

What you describe is the common error of toeing-in. I appreciate your problem of FOV. The fact you are coping with this so well is a significant factor in why I think your macro work is so accomplised :-)
