I need some rational advice

You and me both, man. I keep telling myself that I'm satisfied with the 7D and 1dsII, but what I'm seeing from the 5DIII is really making it difficult to make a convincing argument.

Coming from that 1DS is saying something. Thats far from a slouch in the FF arena.

It is becoming impossible for me to consider updates without selling something. The money doesnt matter as much as my wife's perception of gear piles.

Own both 5d3 and a 1d4. The af on the 5d is every bit as good as the 1d if not better. Iq to me is a little better and high iso noise. Based on your description of your shooting style, I would get the 5d.
