Bottom line, I stupidly let my Ipad2 hit the deck from a bathroom counter where it was charging and I cracked the screen. My Apple Care obviously does not cover such stupidity so I have a couple of options and want some input. FYI, I am not an electronics wiz but I am reasonably proficient at fixing things and the screen replacement seems doable (I think).

Option A: replace at Apple with new Ipad2 and new warranty..$299
Option B: have local shop repair screen...$175
Option C: have online shop repair screen...$125
Option D: replace screen myself...$60
Option D: do nothing and live with a cracked screen...$0

So, all that said, what option seems most appealing if you were in my shoes? The IPad is exactly one year old and other than the screen, is in perfect working condition.

Thanks.
Scott

get the online shop to repair it, I'm assuming shipping is included in your price quote.

X2 on the online shop.

I just replaced the screen on a friends iPad 2 and the job was not for the faint of heart. Getting the old screen off is the hardest part and requires a heat gun, a gentle touch and much patients. The extra 60 bucks you'll pay to have it professionally repaired will be good piece of mind.

Thanks guys. While I am pretty confident that this repair is in my wheelhouse, I would be doubly pissed at myself if I made my stupid mistake even worse by botching a repair.

Just bear in mind apple won't replace the screen, that 299 gets you a whole new iPad.

I know. Also gets me an additional 2 yrs of warranty and Apple Care + so that the next time I drop it, run it over, shower with it, I can get a new one for $50 with no questions asked.

I am pretty sure that I am going in tonight to get a new one from Apple. Spoke with my business partners today and once they got done giving me crap about being a knucklehead, we agreed that the company would pick up the cost.

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. I'd do it if you plan on keeping the 2nd generation for a while.
