when travelling...

.. do you guys bring the battery grip with you or not? i'm so use to using my hand strap, but without the battery grip, it'll be kinda hard to keep the hand strap on.

but i'm trying to reduce some weight, as i'll be lugging my 12" laptop with me, 24-70, 50, either 580EX2 or the 480EX (haven't decided on which one yet), extra battery and charger.

When my 500D was my workhorse, the grip always was on with two batteries and lasted me a whole day. But for the 5D2 is much heavier with the grip, I will say not use the grip since you are used to the hand strap and have a extra battery close by in case you running out of juice. Traveling with heavy gear is a pain, I hope I'll do okay next month. have fun in Taiwan.

Most of the time when I go travelling I leave the grip at home.
If im spending alot of time in one place, sometimes I'll take the grip with me on the trip and leave it in the hotel, then when I need it I'll attach it.

thanks charles.. prior to this upcoming trip, i went to DC for 2 days and brought my gear along. needless to say after walking close to 7 miles with the KATA 25PL on my back, it got a bit sore after a while. yea, i'm thinking maybe not use the grip and find a way to get a different hand strap.

now i kinda wish i didn't sell my BR strap. haha..

I don't. But then, I don't use a grip when I'm not traveling. It doesn't offer me any real benefits, since the way I flip my cameras to shoot portrait mode is exactly opposite to what it's designed to accommodate.

On any body I have that requires a grip, the grip goes on and stays on - travelling or not...no point having it otherwise.
Batteryless the extra weight of a grip is only about an extra 150 grams - so not worth worrying about
On a 1 series, well, you don't get an option.

It depends where I'm going. If it's someplace with power to recharge the battery pack, no. But if it's someplace that doesn't have power, I bring it and a pack AA batteries.

I never leave home without grips attached. I also can't remember the last time I removed the grip from either of my cameras.

well, where i'll be going, there'll be a lot of eating, sightseeing, street photography and lotsa walking. so trying to stay low key...

I do and it just stays on all the time anyway. I probably take more portrait oriented shots when I am travelling than any other time and I don't have to worry about batteries going flat.

i bring mine, they've got the RRS L brackets attached to them.
