Bokeh: the aesthetic quality of the blur in the OOF regions of a photograph.
It does not simply refer to having a small DOF or a lot of "background blur". Bokeh and "background blur", small DOF and OOF regions are not the same thing.
A photo can have a very limited amount of background blur with beautiful bokeh or a large amount of background blur with horrible bokeh.
Considering that I'm bored at 2am before hitting the bed, I figured this may be a constructive thing to point out....or not :)

BTW....mis-use of your and you're and their and there drive me absolutely insane ;)

Well, you are "accurate"/"correct", and can put this out in a given thread, but then you are done and the next person posting asking about "bokeh" will, well, be your next challenge:)!

I take things with a bit of humor and don't get wound up in things, although sure, educate the newbies!

And then there is a thread here that is actually a cool thread, about "BOKEH", but very explicitely explained in the intro that any background blur is "coole" -- check it out:

https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=456947

So, enjoy yourself and do what you can to educate people, just don't get uptight about it!

I don't get uptight......just want others to know what they're talking about when they post ;) For the record, there is no lens that produces a lot of bokeh.....but there are lenses that produce good and bad bokeh.....I shouldn't venture into the lens part of the forum ;)

I use "bokeh" as a term for anything I don't understand or don't want to answer, but my wife asks for an explanation.

"Honey, why can't I get these shoes in a women's size 11?"

"Bokeh"

"Honey, what is that burger cheaper, it's got more meat on it than the other?"

"Bokeh"

"Honey, why is there a honey badger in my dresser?"

"Bokeh"

And yeah, I say it just like Kai. For the panache.

That's the best use of the word I've seen....you are a genius ;)

Funny, that's all we talk about when hanging out here. (external link)

Edit: Must be kind of a hipster place that thrives on irony. None of their photos have any bokeh at all.

Replacing my Canon 7D, Tokina 12-24mm, Canon 17-55mm, Sigma 30mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.4, and 150-500mm with a Panasonic Lumix FZ1000. I still have the 17-55 and the 30 available for sale.

Off topic a bit but I must ask......does defenestration mean the removal of windows or the filling in/boarding up of windows or both?

Yeah but nowadays if you understand the meaning even if theres incorrect usage, the communication was successful :D

Have a feeling this is in related to my thread, and because everyone understood what I meant by "bokeh'd" I feel that my usage was just as right as anyone elses.

Loosen up pal-o ;)

I know....and the next step will be that the meaning has completely been changed....I don't know if I (or the educated photographic community) can handle that ;)

More along the lines of throwing something out of a window.
