hey everyone. So i know there is a bit of a history of longer sigma lenses(50-500, 150-500, 70-200) lenses having their OS systems fail on them. they are one of the higher repair rate lenses listed on the lensrentals site. I was out shooting with my 150-500OS the other day and when pointing it upwards the OS would work fine...but every so often the image would kind of shudder is the best way to describe it...it would just do a small little shake...it would do it like every 20-30sec or so if i just half pressed the shutter button

i've tried to see if i can recreate it, and so far i haven't been able to

i'm curious if others have had their OS fail on them, and what were the signs or when did you know...did it the motor all of a sudden just die?

thanks

I was told it just stops working, search for a previous thread where I thought I posted Sigma's reply to this question.

Is it just countering your drift and having to jump back to centre after getting to its correction limit? A bit of a jump at first when OS starts up sounds like Canon's IS (at least on some of their lenses).

it wasn't like that though...i mean i've had this lens for coming up on 3 years...so i've seen the jerkiness before...this was like just a random 3-shake kinda thing...as i said i haven't been able to re-create it yet, but i'm going to try some more to see...i'll probably send it in this summer for maybe like a check-up sort of thing(there's still a year on the warranty) as i just feel like it's not performing as well as it used to...but maybe i'm crazy...or trying to convince myself to upgrade my body :)

so yeah...it's gotten a lot worse...the OS does a crazy shake to the point where there is no chance of taking a photo in focus(might post a live view video, which displays an interesting look)...i was thinking i'd continue to use the lens, and take shots with OS off...but i think it makes more sense to send it in...the lens hasn't felt right in a while...and i'd rather have it working good as new instead

Send it in ASAP while still under warranty.

I'm worried about some of my Sigmas (not acting up yet) as I don't use them all that often but with a 10 year Canadian warranty on Sigma EX lenses I'm not in that much of a rush yet.
