How does an EVF have cross-type AF points?

EVF is good because it allows for a reduced flange distance between the lens mount and the sensor, allowing for smaller and better wide-angle lenses, and a smaller overall camera size. Only helps if smaller, good-quality lenses are actually available, though. It works well for shooting anything other than action, and action capabilities are improving all the time. Just like shooting in live view.

Sorry i was being retarded. The light directed from the semi transparent mirror is used for AF. Have no idea how i mixed them up.

As long as it's an SLT, it's not a contender.
.

Sony's OVF cameras were not contenders. Sony has realized there is no competing with Nikon and Canon in the traditional DSLR market so they are trying something different. If the EVF helps increase performance in other areas enough, many photographers may be able to look past the few shortcomings.

I agree, going head to head with the big two was looking like a loser. Even selling bodies at relatively huge discounts against them Sony was hardly eating up the market. So try something different, right?

Time will tell where this goes. For me, the EVF is a deal breaker because it cripples the cameras for some things I shoot. But that doesn't mean these cameras won't be fine for some people. We will just have to see.

The only part of the Sony plan that (to me) makes no sense is how Sony implies that the fixed mirror is the key to their high frame rates.
1) Frame rates are really constrained by processor capacity.
2) A fast frame rate (which Sony pushes as the big deal for these 'SLT' bodies) is fundamentally killed by the refresh issue.

Sports shooters are not going to be attracted to these SLTs, so if the burst rate is Sony's big selling feature then they are barking up the wrong tree.

I use a Canon 5DIII and a Sony A7rIII
