Hi all,

Back again with another photo, this time its of our dog. She is getting on to being about 12 or 13 I believe.. (Only recently moved back home).

Anyhoo, I have a 400D and recently purchased a 50mm 1.8. Yesterday I went out in the garden for a play with it as I don't get much time to myself at the moment.

I took the picture below and am just after some C&C... Personally I like the photo, she doesn't stay still for long at all and I was sitting on the grass and as its a prime, I couldn't adjust the zoom.

Is it over/under exposed or perhaps just right? I was shooting in to the direction of the sun which was partially blocked out by a large yew tree.

Perhaps if anyone thinks they can make it a better photo with some PP then please feel free!

Thanks :)

I'm not as think as you confused I am..

If you want honest C & C, here are few.
When back light hits dark dog, part of the dog gets easily over exposed. Chest and face is under exposed. Easiest way to get correct exposure is to shoot away from direct sun and use manual mode.
Composition is off. On right upper corner there is bright area that leads viewers eyes away from the subject. My eyes travels first the her eye, then to her over exposed side and then to upper right corner. Try to place your dog so that bg does not compete with her. Stub on bg is also too close to her.
Imo there are 3 ways to crop a dog. Face only, chest and face, whole dog. In here you cut her legs off. Imo it would look better with a tad tighter crop or looser to show her full body.
I like the bokeh in this image. It looks really good.
I would not try to improve this in PP. I would shoot her more and try to improve and learn new things. It important to get it right in camera. PP is just to give that final pop.
Hope this makes sense

Makes perfect sense, thank you!

Like is said in the OP, she never stays still, this was more of a lucky shot. If I ever try and position her, her ears drop as if she is being told off. So its very difficult.

This picture sows her as she is interested in something, which is rare... haha!

The white bit in the upper right corner is unfortunately the sky (between my house and the neighbours). Great Comments though, so thank you very much.
