Anyone have any DIY micro-adjustment or focus-test methods that yeild the best accuracy?

What I have done in the past is place a yardstick on a flat surface, and focus my lens (at an angle) on a number. I usually do this at the minimum focus distance at three apertures (wide open, then stopped down), and also move away about 10ft or so, and do the same thing.

Any other suggestions, or will my method work fine?

This is a bad way to do it. Problem with it is because the ruler is filled with lines of contrast and since the AF will lock on to the closest point with contrast, a perfectly calibrated lens will appear to be front focusing.

Google lens align and copy the design in DIY fashion using a ruler or download the chart on page 19 from focus test chart dot com.

I used to try and do it manually, then peer at my screen from 2 inches away, squinting like I've got chili in my eyes. Now I just use FoCal. Money well spent when you have a few lenses.

Yup. I used FoCal for the first time yesterday, just to test my long prime. I was so impressed with the ease of use that I went on to do all of my lens collection.

1.2 which was the latest, although I know that v1.3 is due real soon now.

I would HIGHLY recommend FoCal Pro version, fully automatic and stunning results.

I couldn't be happier, I used it on all my lenses and the difference on some is huge!

Fantastic, it explains how to MA you're zooms at maximum focal length.

Seemed to work very well IMHO!

I can't wait until the 5D3 is supported... He said as soon as he gets his hands on one he would get it compatible.

Maybe he is waiting to release v1.3 until he can do that?

I would definitely assume you will see it once v1.3 is released shortly.
