Came across the thread that pointed at Scott Kelby's settings in Lightroom to gain a specific look. Decided to try it out on some recent photos I took at Pike's Place Market. With all the maxing out of various slider's they surprisinly don't look too bad (to my eye at least).

Thanks :-)

I wanted to try and make them different than the millions of snapshots that everyone that has ever been to Seattle has. That's what PP is all about, turn a snapshot into something a little better (or usually in my case save a bad photo)

I like! pleasing to look at. For some reason when looking at the light my brain referenced this WW2 photo:

I feel like the color in your pics would be the same in this WW2 pic if it were color. if that makes sense!

Here's the post I had based the settings from. It's actually about trying to recreate a Dave Hill look (I have no idea who he is but it seems he has a distinctive look in his work). There's a few more steps in the overall processing that I didn't do, such as some skin smoothing. I just stayed within Lightroom and didn't take it any further.

Actually pretty surprised at how it comes back around considering how everything such as clarity, vibrance, contrast gets pegged at 100.

Funny how the brain connects things seemingly random together. I don't know that I would have connected the two together but now that I see it I agree.

I think they are both good, but the second is my favorite. The colors are great! Im a sucker for open air produce shots.

I like it! It's the "Dave Hill" look but not gritty. :)

With the mention of Dave Hill I was all in. Only to find that it is based on LR3. LR4, which I have now, is quite different. It gave a starting point but I'll have to tweak it a bit to get it really dialed in.

Thanks for the link.

I like it too. I think it worked well for these photos. For sheer fun I tried this technique on a few photos I had recently taken, and it clearly doesnt' suit every photo. You can see my feable attempt in this setion. https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1167221

I really do like that 2nd shot, it's my favorite of the two.

I really do like that 2nd shot, it's my favorite of the two.

I have a group of high ISO, low light, karate demonstration shots - all young folks - that I've been playing with. It does work for some, but not many, which is what the tutorial says. The light has to be right, the subject has to be right.

I do agree that it doesn't really fit with most youngsters. It ages them too much IMO. Although I did like some of the results I got, especially with the darker clothing.

Or if you're feeling lazy you could always switch back to 2010 processing. :)
