Well, its here. Some first impression. I have owned 5d2 since Jan of 2009, and a 5d before that. I have also owned a 7D.
1The camera is heavier. enough for me to notice, but I am very used to my 5d2.
2Grip is nice and comfortable. the button layout is closer to 7D which I shot for a while also, so not much getting used to. As many have said, the playback zoom button has been now moved to the left side, and I dont even know how to zoom in incrementally. Takes a bit of getting used to, but on the plus side, I have set it to 8X, and can check focus much more rapidly.
3. The Menu is far more complicated and involved. there are 3-4 submenus in every menu. I have not looked through most of it, just setting up some basic things, like assigning focus selection to joy stick, limited focus point to cross type ones only, assigning focus to the back button only, etc.
4. The camera has shorter shutter lag, and mirror black out. noticeable. It still has a fairly strong mirror slap.
5. Silent shooting mode, is very quiet. the mirror black out is longer, so takes getting used to.
6. Most importantly, autofocus is a dream. a fair bit better than 7D, and a lot better than the 5d2. It locks faster, and focuses much more confidently. With my 7d, with my fast primes (85 1.2, 35 1.4, 24 1.4) on the off center points, the focus struggle more and the miss rate seemed to be hire. It tracks great in the off center point, and focuses very very confidently in lowlight, really nice with the fast primes.
the last factor is obviously the biggest one. First time using pro autofocus for me.

thanks Adam. I am somewhat nostalgic about parting with the 5d2 I have to say. However, the 5d3 autofocus has me sold. will post shots once I take something worth posting.

I know what you mean! I felt that way moving from the 50D to the 5D2; even though it's a clear upgrade, you just think of all the good times you had with that camera. Well, if you're anything like me, you'll forget all about the 5D2 in a week or two. ;-)a
