I tried to do a search and it was hard to follow. I have been trying it out and so far it serves my needs quite well. In fact as an experiment I sent a print to my local Costco and at 8 X 12 it looked great! The file sizes seem reasonable to manage in LR.

95% of what I shoot will go on screen, maybe 5% will be printed. I realize that there are limitations of print size based on resolution, both other than that see mRAW as a slight advantage including memory space.

So - please chime in - I'm wondering how many of you capture images on your 7D in mRAW resolution, and how you have found it to work for you?

Thanks.

I've done it and files are smaller, doesn't have a noise advantage versus downsizing in post. With LR I like to convert to DNG and the DNG's from mRAW are surprisingly large so defeats the purpose. with LR4 I think I'll be saving my lesser images (i.e. most of them) as lossy DNG's as the file sizes are way smaller (about 40%), most can't see a difference in quality https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1160725 and the other advantages of RAW for future adjustability are maintained.

Summarize my plan: shoot full RAW unless card space at a premium (or need instant jpgs) ----> convert to DNG (optional) on import to LR4 ----> save all as lossy DNG's ----> delete DNG full size (or CR2 if that's how you do it) for all but absolute best shots.

I've got a 60D, and I use RAW from ISO 100-3200, and mRAW at ISO 6400 and 12800. mRAW results in smaller file size, some loss of detail, but some noise reduction due to averaging. You can get the same noise reduction in PP, but if you know you will need to do it, I think mRAW is a great solution that avoids some PP steps. I only shoot RAW at lower ISOs, however.
