Would you buy a 7d or 5d 3 if you shoot field sports, court sports and some general portrait. Not making a living at it.

If it is, I hate to spend most of the budget on a 5D3 and left with little money on good glass. I'll take 7D+excellent glass over 5D3+mediocre glass any day. Fee

Photography is about GEAR and not talent or practice. Practice won't make you a better photographer. Expensive equipment will. =D

Mar 28, 2012 14:17 | #6 7D was a decent camera. I sold it for the 5D III and I couldn't be more happy. I can get shots with the 5D III @ ISO 25600, that I couldn't get with the 7D at 1600. I always had a problem with noise even at low iso settings. It really depends on what you shoot, but the price difference to me was more than worth it. Christian

Another camera to consider is the 1D3 if you don't need video. Noise performance is about the same as the 7D, but the camera is much more agile. It just fires away with authority, the 7D hesitates a little. SOSKIphoto

Mar 28, 2012 14:38 | #9 If you are going to want to upgrade eventually from the 7D, $ave yourself some cash now and go directly for the 5D III. I went from the T1i to the 5D II just because I knew if I got a 7D or 60D, I would still want to upgrade 'someday' and decided to skip the in-between. Robin

Some Canon stuff and a little bit of Yongnuo.

The question is whether, to the OP, that difference is worth ~$2,000 more in acquisition cost. Some Canon stuff and a little bit of Yongnuo.
