Decided to replace my aging circa 1988 EF 50 1.8 mk I lens. This lens has been my workhorse for many years. In fact I did a two day photoshoot with this lens alone! Have been thinking to retire it as 50mm is really where my FL hangs out most of the time. Checked out the EF 50 1.4 but it didn't feel any more different than my mk I. The EF 50L was too much. Nice though. But too much.

One of my wedding shooter buddy recommended me to try the Sigma 50 1.4. I did. The rest is history. Here's one I snapped off minutes after un-boxing it.

Looks great! I'm planning on upgrading my 50mm 1.8 to a 1.4, canon. This sigma looks good...hmmm. Decisions, decisions....

@taemo & rick_reno: thanks! What's with the "you got a good one". It sure makes the Sigma 50 seems random. I have to say the bokeh on this is really good. Thanks to its 9-blade circular aperture.

@rebel diane: If I were you, I'd skip the canon 50 1.4. I tried it and it didn't seem anymore different than my mk I 1.8. But not sure about the mk II which is more flimsy.

@Jemhead: I had a Sigma tele many years ago. Was a great lens for the price. Sometimes I do miss it. Really liking this Siggy 50. Build is up there with my other L primes. Gonna test it more over this weekend with my kids to make sure it is ready for prime time photoshoots.

Loving my new camera! I have absolutely NO idea what I'm doing with it,
but giving "hobbyist p
hotographers" a bad name has been fun!

never had any issues myself, but I know some people that had bad luck with their Sigma 50 having back/front focusing issues.
I noticed that my 50 at f1.4 is 1/3 stop under exposed but it's amazing at f2.0

@SadieSue: I like to think that her lips come from me.... ;)

@taemo: I'm hoping this weekend will give me some time to use it more so I can determine if this is a "good one". So far I am liking it more than I expected.
