Some more trains from my area (East side of the SF Bay area).

1. Westbound container train heading through Point Pinole

3. The Richmond Pacific is a short line that works the Port of Richmond. A very clean GP15 and caboose.

4. Westbound for the Port of Oakland, a BNSF intermodal thorugh Pinole

5. Westbound Ethanol train at Bayfront Park, Pinole

6. Eastbound empty Iron Ore train on its way back to Utah at Point Pinole (SF Bay Bridge in background)

7. An eastbound Capital Corridor commuter in push mode, heads up the east side of the bay from the very bottom end of the SF Bay at Alviso California back toward Sacramento

8. Ending the set with just a fun one. Playing with my new tripod and ND filter at at Pinole with my GTI posing in front of Amtrak's California Zephry (Chicago to Oakland) as it speeds by. I am still playing with the color on this one trying to get it right. The white streaks at the top are pigeons.

4-6 are awesome shots. Very nicely done. Are you shooting with a tilt-shift lens? The shots have a surreal look to them.

Thanks. No tilt shift (I wish I could afford one!). 4 was my 7D, with the 24-105 at max zoom and 6 was was my 1DIV with my 100-400 at max zoom, both at f5.6.

6 was taken through a wire mesh fence on the bridge, which where the star effect on the headlights came from. At that point the train is about half a mile away from me still so that could add to the "miniature" look of it. The heat signature from the engines help too.

Nice shots. I'm a fellow train lover, and a fellow east bay'er. Have you checked out the Niles Canyon Railway trains? They had a steam locomotive a couple of weeks ago.

First I'm shocked by a beautiful caboose! Then I see shot #4 and am captivated by (at first i thought it was just me) the model train appearance of the shot. Just what is it that gives that impression? I should know, but can't quite figure it out. DOF, point of Focus, Composition...???

Outstanding work! Thank you for sharing. It made my day.

UPDATE: It's the perfect Ballasting of those Lines that helps with the illusion, and the pure white (Plastic looking) sign trackside too. Just a few things that help.
