First I'm shocked by a beautiful caboose! Then I see shot #4 and am captivated by (at first i thought it was just me) the model train appearance of the shot. Just what is it that gives that impression? I should know, but can't quite figure it out. DOF, point of Focus, Composition...???
Outstanding work! Thank you for sharing. It made my day.

Glad everyone likes them! As for the model train look, I think it is a combination of things. The compositon plays a part, but I think the heat signature adding a blurry look to the back end of the train helps too, along with the sunlight poking out on a cloudy day lighting the engine just so.
Also, I used selecitve sharpening and contrast using Nik software that adds to the effect I think. I didn't start out with anything in mind, I just started messing around and was pretty happy with how it turned out. As soon as I get some more ink for my large format printer, that one will get framed.
As for the caboose, well modern train crews are only usually 2 people, so there is really no need sadly. The Richmond pacific uses theres as a push car and to ferry switching crews up the road to the Union Pacific interchange.
And to John37, I have been by Niles, but have not been lucky enough to be there to shoot when they are running. It is a bit of a challenge for me because I am disabled and I need the area to be pretty accessable for me to shoot. I do aim to try in the future though.
