thats like saying i will wait until i crash my car, then get insurance.

ahah

Really? A scratched lcd on your camera renders it inoperable? I scratched the lcd on my XTi a few years ago and then got a cover for it and (shocker) I could not see the scratch. If we are going to throw out inane analogies: Getting a new camera and immediately slapping a protector on it is like getting a new couch and covering it with slip covers.

is this similar to the GGS screens? I had that on my 5d2 for a few years and it worked GREAT. is this a thin piece of GLASS, and not plastic? I dont want to decrease the contrast, clarity, etc. thanks.

I will build a titanium fence around the screen, with a semi-permeable gas membrane to prevent nose booger smudges. 7 years later, I will add $100 more to the selling price of my pristine bodied museum quality Mark III, with 120,000 actuations. :D

Whatever. Supposedly tough LCD screens have gotten scratched. I always use screen protectors on all my devices. Scratch free screens make for less haggling over price when it's time to resell. Also gives you peace of mind when placing the DSLR on it's screen, lens facing up (if need be, off-chance). Use this coupon when spending > $12 at XO skins (30% off): SPRINTXO

Got mine the other day for the 5D III. Installation was quick and easy. Doesn't impede the visibility, great bang for the buck.

have you used the GGS screens before? is it a piece of glass? I just dont want the screen to look murky. I hate plastic over glass... thanks

I've had a Giottos Schott Glass protector on my 5D II. This one isn't glass. As aforementioned, I think it doesn't impede the clarity of the LCD in any way.

Wouldn't a very thin piece of glass be even more worse than nothing at all? I would think that any significant impact would shatter the "protective" glass and create a bunch of sharp objects to scratch the LCD screen - much like some have had their lenses front element scratched by a shattered UV filter.

I bought a screen protector, film type from germany and it was made by 3M, It was terrible in my opinion, The screen on the mk3 is lush, you put the film on and it makes it all shiny and horrible which to me defeats all the effort of canon making a lovely screen.

Out of interest, I'm guessing the glass on the back of the camera is replaceable, what was the cost of a new screen cover for a mk2 out of interest? (Or is the mk3 screen have to be replaced with the outer?) Just weighing up the "risks"

Anyone post a picture of the xo skin to see how much glare it gives off the back.. just for my interest :)

Sorry to highjack.

5D MK III is using tempered glass on LCD, pretty much impossible to scratch.

I don't think so, I just called Canon it is NOT glass.

Yeah, right. :)
Do you have one on hand? It's glass same as 7D.

The rear screen is the same 3.2" 1,040,000 dot LCD as on the EOS-1D X. It's a 3:2 aspect ratio screen that uses the latest design in which the panel is bonded directly to the toughened glass screen, so that there's no air gap between the two (which could cause internal reflection - worsening glare). The result is one of the best screens currently available - clear, sharp and high-resolution.

Tempered glass replacable LCD screen protectors NEED a "protector"? WTF? I only wish I had thought up this idea, but I do like to sleep at night! Fools and money are soon parted!
