Not sure what Canon number you called, but apparently no clue customer support guy knows no difference between newer Clear View LCD 2 and style used in older cameras like 5DMK2.
I own 5D3 and used to own 7D, and can assure you that the cover is glass, I don't need to call anyone to confirm that it's not wood or wool. :)

Canon's Clear View II LCDs have no gap between the protective glass cover and the LCD unit, eliminating air-glass interface, reducing refraction and reflection. The glass LCD cover has an anti-reflective coating.

I don't think so, I just called Canon it is NOT glass.

So is it an acrylic plastic? It felt like glass to me.. maybe its coated?
