The flash on my EOS 20D (2.0.3) doesn't popup anymore. Hear the clicking noises, but it fails to open. After the camera tries for a while, I get error 99. Anybody seen this?
Thanks for any feedback,
Martin

Now keep press the flash button on the side and pry it open a few times then try just using the flash button to see if it opens by itself. Now pop and close the flash about 15 times and the problem will go away mkloiber wrote: The flash on my EOS 20D (2.0.3) doesn't popup anymore. Hear the clicking noises, but it fails to open. It gets stuck in a depressed position causing the camera to "believe" an external flash is attached. The hotshoe can be romoved and the switch freed and voila! However, I would do the search to get all the details, many of which involve the same problem with my 20D.

Nov 29, 2005 11:29 | #6 Thank you for all your feedback. I searched the forum for this issue and found some good advice. Seems that is a "standard" issue with the 20D's. I also see no reason to send it to Canon...I'll try the open/close routine. BTW, I don't think the hotshoe switch failed, because I can hear the lock happily click away. Seems to me the spring might not be strong enough or...the whole thing is just sticky and it's time to get the 580EX.....

Cassie Goldmember More info | Thanks Jon. I missed the part about the hotshoe.......I'll check that, I've never had an external flash on the camera, must be some dirt, it's pretty ridiculous to have to tap the flash everytime I need to use it. http://thompson-photo.smugmug.com/
