Nice!

Where were you standing (roughly) when you took the shot? Hard to find "good" unobstructed views of Pikes Peak. I tried to shoot it once when I was helping my best friend with some work on his roof (Powers & Woodmen, roughly), but the wind was too strong for the wimpy tripod I had at the time.

Head up to woodland park, lots of options there. Or the garden of the gods visitors center offers good options. A pano with the garden of gods below and the peak above is nice in the morning hours. I did a poor job of the pano last trip out, but I'm going back in july.

Actually we were staying at the Best Western Academy Hotel . I was standing around at the backside close to IS25 . There are several other hotels to the backside so you have to just image without them being in the picture . I used a 70-200mm f/4L zoom lens @ 100mm . Had to frame it so traffic from IS25 was not in the bottom of the frame but distant houses across the way are in the bottom of the frame if you look close .

Thanks! I'd forgotten about the GOTG visitor center...Might have to just make that one of my weekend adventures since I'm only 90 miles away (or less). :D

If you are up for an early morning hike. Go up past the cog train station parallel to the tracks there are some great shots to be had if you like water and boulders. We have a vacation cabin up in Green Mountain Falls. We vacation there every year until I can afford to retire and come out full time. My wife's family is from the area.

Up for an early morning hike? Hell, I "live" for those...cuz those are when you get your very best (IMO) shots. LOL

To make it even better, I have a buddy who lives in Colo Spgs and I have a place to rest my head and get an early start (so I don't have to drive 90+ miles first).

I'll add that hike to my "to-do" list. :D

Be aware that the hard bodies stretching for the hike up the peak will make you feel woefully inadequate, even if you are in reasonable shape.

The first time I went up there I got some unclear advice and actually went about 3/4 of a mile up the trail to the peak with about 25lbs of gear hanging off my back. As someone who spends his life around sea level I was dying. I went back the next day with considerably less crap and a more direct route. The peak hike is on my bucket list, but I wont be carrying a metal tripod and a set of lenses.

LOL

I live here and my photo backpack is generally in the 40-45lbs range for the winter treks (survival gear + camera gear); with Spring now here, it'll lighten up to about 30lbs which is still plenty heavy...but I like to be prepared.

The key is to take nice, comfortable pace, re-hydrating often and stopping 1x/hour to replenish calories (1/2 of a banana & 1/2 of a MRB).

If you don't mind please continue your conversations with a PM instead of here . I appreciate your comments but you both have totally taken off in a different direction than my post . It's called hi-Jacking .
