Good sturdy and $100 range in new is rather rare around here!! Most likely even more rare in NY. I would save up so you can get a good sturdy tripod. Unless you are very tough on your gear it should last for many years. Canon 60D,18-55mm,55-250mm,50mm compact macro, AF ext tubes. Sigma 8-16mm uwa, 18-250mm, 85mm F1.4, 150-500mm

The best I can recommend is to look for a used Bogen 3001/3201 (black) or 3021/3221. (Beware the 'returns not accepted' ads on eBay! That is likely a sign that something is broken.) You need to give me OK to edit your image and repost! Keep POTN alive and well with member support https://photography-on-the.net/forum/donate.php

Both FotoPro and Sirui is known to give you the best bang for the buck. You will probably blow the $100, but not by much. I just got the FotoPro C5i for $190, and it's amazing good for that price! Figure about $50 shipped and that leaves you $50 to pick up a used head there as well. That should be a pretty good starter setup. I snagged a Vanguard SBH200 here for $30 just about a month ago. That head is a monster. I love it. SnapFire

It is a little over your budget but I expect you would be satisfied with the purchase. The review in amazon is from a forum member. Unfortunately it is not it stock at the moment. Daniel

It is as good as any tripod I have seen for near this price point. No weight rating but I would guess it is around the 14 pound range. Worthy a look! Proudly Australian Made!!

tvphotog Cream of the Crop More info | Apr 03, 2012 11:35 | #11 B&H has a bunch of Manfrotto tripods with heads for about $130 or so. They're aluminum and heavy, but they come close to your budget. Manfrottos have a long strong track record and will last a lifetime. Jay
