Beach Camera offered new 5DII's on Ebay for $1799 a week or so ago. I missed it though.

Great price for sure if you can catch one at that price. The supply was pretty limited and wasn't in a early am special?

Wow! This thread got some pace since I last checked.

I ended up not going with the original used local deal, but did end up snagging a deal that went up a few days later on craigslist.

1650 with 7 months left on the warranty and just under 5k on the shutter.

I felt comfortable with this deal as I couldn't wait until a sale for a brand new one was within the 1700-1800 price range again since I just got rid of my old camera.

Thanks for all the great information and perspectives!

Beach Camera isn't sketchy at all. They are a reputable store.

$1,759 Canon refurbished, with a 90-day warranty is not really that good considering the stiff competition with Nikon. But if Canon would offer a 1-year warranty for it, I would buy one right away.

However at Beach Camera one could buy a new one for the regular price ($2,199 ?), minus a $400.00 rebate on a printer.

Beach has sold them new for $1799 several times in the last few months.

That would be the best deal, but Beach Camera does not have it on sale at the moment. I looked it for it at eBay just now.

Right.... Point is that it makes the returns look bad as warranty is worse and you pay tax.

Thanks.

I believe I would not have to pay tax (Alaska), but I would have to pay for shipping to Alaska. Now Crutchfield ships free to Alaska (all products), but it costs $2,199 :)

If I were to buy it at at the Canon price, then I would buy it from Crutchfield. As it is now, I will be waiting for a good deal from a reputable dealer such as Beach Camera. It can be found at eBay for around $1,900, but since I don't know anything about the sellers I will wait as long as it takes.

ya..kinda like how the ~2350 for a refurb 5dm2 + 24-105 with tax is not appealing when beachcamera was selling the kit for ~2500 new. they haven't done one this month though.

But considering it's 2900 retail..haha
