I may have an opportunity in the future to shoot for a local gym for promotional materials - however the gym owner has specifically stated to me that he wants to retain 100% of the copyright. Being in Canada, he automatically gets this unless we sign an agreement to the contrary.

I just wanted to get a feel for how often members in Canada successfully negotiate retaining copyright. And if not, have you been able to secure rights to display in your portfolio?
