I have tickets for the Wednesday practice round in Augusta. Anyone care to share your experiences? I'm not really looking for technical advice, but rather what you found to be helpful/painful.

gonzo - I have been to the practice round for 5 years --I take my 7D and my 100x400mm,5.6 lens and once my 50mm, 1.4 together- You can't take photo bags in so the 2 lens were a hassle - very heavy and cumbersome for all day walking - Augusta is the most HILLY golf course you'll ever walk. So I take 1 lens, my 70x200mm,2.8 -short and long enough for your needs. I almost didn't make it in 2 years ago because some numb nut @#$%^ said my lens was to long - when you walk to the gate they have a box that you put your lens in to judge the length by their standards - this guy was awanna be somebody and rejected my lens - so I went to the back a little and waited for another guy who was checking lens and got through his line. They say the lens can't be longer than 6 inches - so don't put on a lens hood and you might have to take off the lens cover on the attachable end - but keep it in mind if they hassle with you.
However, I must say that this is the most well organized and efficient golf tournament you will ever go to - the course is almost hard to believe how beautiful and manicured it is. The par 3 - held on Wdnesday is fantastic- Palmer, Nicklaus and Player always play together and that's the shot I take and look forward to every year - ICONS!!
Wear something cool -shorts , t-shirt and comfortable shoes and make sure you have the Pimento Cheese sandwich -Augusta tradition. You'll be amazed at the prices - no rip off there as is the case with every other event you go to. Have fun - this is the most incredible event you'll go to -if you are a golf fan!!!!!

Not that big of a golf fan, but how can you say NO to Augusta?? True classic.

Hope you post some shots!

Thanks Gatornole. My current plan is to take the 70-200F4IS and have the 1.4 converter in the pocket of my cargo shorts. Still debating a wider lens for scenic shots, but dont want to overburden myself.
