I really like the colors of the earth in #1.. I know this is kind of an odd question but, would you happen to know what minerals are in it to give it that color?

Lots... Iron, zinc, magnesium, salts, copper. I think you can look up death valley & there is list of info about all the components.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

really like #1 and #3. Never saw those rock formations, though the day I went there I had a hangover so spent 5 minutes in the sand dunes then headed back to the AC in the car!

No, we were lucky to be able to go inside the fence to shoot thanks to a park ranger.

Dangit, got my hopes up!

Very nice! DV is on my list. Is "the track" nearby? I would love to get the iconic rock shot..

BTW, if anyone is interested in seeing/photographing the moving rocks of Racetrack Playa, but don't want to deal with the usually bone-jarring washboards of Racetrack Rd, Bonnie Claire dry lake, about 15 miles east of Scotty's Castle, has a similar phenomenon. The downside is the rocks tend to be a little smaller, but the consolation is that you'll be able to drive on the playa.
