I'm very allergic to wasp/hornet stings, so there was an element of fear here ;)

Paper wasp trapped inside:

Paper wasps at their nest. Note the different eye colors, as well as the color and shape of the antennae of the bottom wasp. I've been monitoring this nest for a while (as it's in the doorway of my brewery!) and what was interesting is that all the wasps, including the one in the cocoon, and the eggs have disappeared, so some predator must have gotten to them.

A mason wasp - note the size of his jaws! (sorry all - another indoor shot ;))

Thanks Brian - very fast response! I have no idea about the difference, maybe one of the biologists can shed some light on this. As to the size, the paper wasps are little fellows - about 15mm, the mason wasp is a monster - 2.5-3cm. I wish I could find his/her nest.

Thanks! I think they are pure evil too - according to the words, they catch other bugs and chop them up to feed to their offspring in their burrow...

Thanks Dennis. I was in two minds whether to include the first one as I've been showing so many pics of indoor bugs recently :D
