Took some pre-ball photos for my neighboor this arfternoon, and wondering what amount you all normally take/ final amount of images after culling?

She was going with her cousin (last minute change of plans) so romantic photos went out the door, had to make it relaxed with two cousins posing in a traditional boy/girl setting..ended up going down the backyard and getting some nice scenery ones, then some posed ones in the studio, and a few with her parents, as a group and single (mum and daughter, dad and daughter) I have ended up with 80, still editing/culling, estimate 20-30 really good keepers, probably took 150 all up

Is this proportion good ar what is the normal ratio for this sort of shoot?

:)

Will post some photos later for critique/comments

Lou

Did you promise or do they expect a certain amount? Did you tell them how many you took? These are mistakes I find people making when it comes to number of images.

I try to focus on quality over quantity, which I admit is hard sometimes. Be very careful not to give them 4 of the same image, rather pick the best one. I used to include everything that was in focus and where the subject was not blinking - I have gotten much better at picking the best of the bunch.

I return 20-30 for 2-hour engagement shoots. I probably shoot 5 times that. I'd said around 20-30 would be normal for your case. A few great photos have a greater impact than a few great ones with a lot of mediocre / similar ones in the mix.

Thankyou guys!

we took an hour all up, and yeah I am culling the doubles, to the point of zooming in to see which one has the MOST crystel clear eyes!

Still processing (have three young children) I will post some up ASAP

By looking at it now, I'm, thinking 15-20 MAX, that is getting down to the nitty-gritty :)

Lou

Thankyou for the feedback...keep posted ..:P

Muddy? Must be different colour profiles we use, the top one is purple tint, curous to know what other people see on thier moniter..they printed fine last one was a little dark at the printers, but colours where true to what I see.

My thoughts on the photos.

1. I am not a big fan of the purple tine on this. I also dont quite understand why there is so much headroom - the composition is a bit odd.

2. A bit too yellow/orange for me, but its a fine snap.

3. I can see why they called this muddy. I think the bigger issue is that it is a bit underexposed. This is my favorite of the lot though.
