Yesterday was my day at the Sun 'n Fun 2012 in Lakeland, Florida. There were a lot of interesting aircraft, but for some reason I took a liking to this particular aircraft.

Grunman OV-1D Mohawk
S/N 68_15958

Engine: Lycoming T53 turbo-prop

Looks like a T-6 on his tail. Definitely not a Mustang.

You are probably right. I though it was this guy following the OV-1D:

Here is one more I want to show:

Thanks for the correction.

Looks like a 60's version of the A-10.

You are probably closer to the truth. Wikipedia has a pretty good history on this bird. It's original mission was for observation and light strike capability. It only expended from there.

Your post brought back some memories of my days in Vietnam and being stationed at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska. They had a few OV-1's at Wainwright. I found this old shot from my time in Vietnam. Taken in 1968 at DaNang. Not the best, I was walking accross the area at the time.

Nice shot even still. By any chance would you know what the rectangular pod is that is connected to the fuselage on the copilot's side of the aircraft?

Thanks,

Bruce
