After much soul searching, I finally decided to invest on a CSC system. I really need a viewfinder, so due to cost and features, the best value I could find was the Nikon V1.

And why do I feel sorry for Nikon?

Because they made an awesome camera system that the fan boys are having trouble giving the love. Strobist hates it, and I can't even find a mention of it from Scott kelby.

They are missing out.

That was entertaining.....

Kai likes the images, but hates the design. Its actually very retro in a Bauhaus sort of way. I don't like it in white, but thats because its too obvious.

His comparison to the Pen and the relative value sort of misses the point. You can't touch an EP3 with a viewfinder for less than $1000 (with kit lens). $1000 will get you the V1 plus two lenses.

Coupled with the fact that I owned the EP3, and the files weren't as clean and the interface was confusing. My two cents -- but this is a nice camera for sure.

After much indecision I went for the Fuji X100 instead.

I had the opportunity to shoot with a V1 for a week and I'm sold on it as a compact alternative to a dslr kit. Yes it has a smaller sensor, but not everyone needs razor thin dof, and using the right focal length and subject separation can still yield some decent background blur. It has a very useable EVF and the focus and frame rate outperform many dslr's. I think many people dismiss it because of its lack of external controls and smaller sensor, but that's their loss.
