You should add a mask instead of using the eraser.
Then you can go back and make corrections if you need to.

To be honest. I don't know how to do that. Gonna search the net later.

Thanks

Not complicated, once you have the hang of it.
You said you have one layer above the other.
Click on the top layer to select it. Press the button on the bottom of the laters panel that has a circle inside the rectangle. That adds a mask, which should be white.
Then tap the brush tool in the left panel.
Look at your color chips. Make sure Black is the foreground, White is the background.
Then using the Black brush, paint over the objects on the photo you want to hide, and the mask will do that. If you did too much, you can tap "X" to swap the colors, and paint with White to bring it back.

Not enough info to really help out. Clearly the eraser isn't broken, software does not work that way so you are doing something wrong. It can be that you are on the wrong layer, it can be that you have a small area selected and are not in that area, it can be a number of other things as well.

But to do what you want, as Merlin says, setting up a mask is way better because its reversible. Here is a really nice tutorial.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
