June Photo Challenge - What Is It??

Howdy one and all...

This month's photo challenge is:
WHAT IS IT??

Your challenge is to take 1 or 2 photos. You will post a close-up of an object that we may see on a regular basis, but perhaps we won't recognize in the orientation or magnification you present.

Another way of saying it: Show a close-up (not extreme cropping, however) of something familiar that can be verified with another photo, but the close-up doesn't really look like what we envision the object to look like.
Example:
I missed a great shot of ice cubes with entrained air bubbles the other day. A macro of the bubbles compared to a full shot of the glass with soda and ice was what I had in mind.

So there's the challenge.

Twist those brains around and show us what we've always seen yet never noticed!

If you crop your photo, it must be no less than a 640x480 piece of the original. That way you can post the cropped image as the "What is it?" and the full image as the "answer".

Post your first picture (if it's relatively small in file size) or link to the picture, AND POST THE LINK TO THE SOLUTION TO THE PUZZLE. (Let's post links here since the solution images may be quite large.)

We can stew on what your first image is before you give it away. Let everyone have a chance to view it in their time zone. Then we can link to the solution on our own anytime we want.

(Multiple entries are allowed. The decision of the judges is arbitrary and secret. So are their identities.)

-CPW

ADDENDUM
If the solution is not posted, let's go ahead and guess!!

Here's an easy one to start with. The Challenge photo is small so I'll post it...
WHAT IS IT??

Okay, here's my reposting as requested by Cowboy:

That's a good one, new girl. I'll have to think about that some more. In the mean time, here's one of mine:

I was going to post my first one but then Cowboy said that it had to be something that would be common to everybody and I don't think my first one it. Maybe I'll post it later just to see how many people can guess that one. In the mean time, try to guess what my #2 is. Hope it's not TOO obvious. :) BTW, no editing at all was done to mine except for a little cropping.

Solution! (external link)

New Girl, here's my guess of what yours is. Is it a view of your window through a wine glass stem and the phot is turned 90 degrees????

like CPW said: "twist those brains around", so I did a bit of twisting of this image, though no fliters were used, and when you see the photo in it's entirety it will be obvious.

yup PacAce - only thing you left out is that there is a mirror image! I thought it would be pretty obvious but I like the imagery of it.

I'm still thinkin on yours...

CowboyPoet,

Veeeeery clever, you sly dog, you! :D
After an hour of just staring at your photo I finally gave up and took a peek! Would never have guessed it in a million years...okay, maybe in a thousand years!

Well, I thought it would be easier. I thought leaving that little shiny piece on the left would give it away!

Good one for your first post. I thought of something like that but even then I had to look at your solution! Still workin' on the second.

That's Beautiful. I had the blinds, but couldn't tell the rest. Looks like it could take flight!!

O.K. PacAce, since I was "so cold" I had to peek at your solution. What a great idea and like CPW's another one that I would not have guessed.

But perhaps I was no so cold in guessing a flame because it was light (sunlight?) hitting the face of the CD that caused the color change...

Thanks CPW - I sorta see a bird in it too. It is a fun image to play with.
