How much of a difference do the CPS straps make? My dad and I thought about joining; we are self employed, and this is what I will do for a living (barring unforeseen circumstances)
so I think that qualifies... I've probably sold a $100 or so in prints, but I have not been really aggressively pursuing it.

CPS straps are primarily for hanging around the neck--and not really long enough to sling crosswise. For heavy loads, that is a bad idea. For heavier lens/body combos, I highly recommend a shoulder strap. Black Rapid straps, Luma and the like. Optech (which is also contracted to make the CPS straps), also makes a few neck straps, and are considered to be of the "bargain" variety.

My ex was part of it. I think it was difficult to get in he said. But he's an international commercial photog so I dunno. Would there be an age limit?

No age requirements that I'm aware of. Technically, all you need to qualify is a certain amount of eligible hardware. For Silver and Gold membership, it can take only one pro body and one L lens.

Nevermind, 20 points, so 3 eligible items, minimum. You get no goodies for Silver membership.

I wonder if the video editors on The Titanic ever went, "Sorry, I can't right now. I'm busy synching the Titanic..."

I think it is 18 if you read the lawyer-speak.

Ok, interactive story time!

Imagine you're a highschooler and you and your friends want to go to the nearby park to hang out, smoke, etc. You happen upon a strange sight. There appears to be a 'kid' lying down in the grass. FLASH! He seems to be taking pictures.

One of your friends pipes up, "What are you doing?"

He responds, "Someone left a box of doughnuts here, so I'm taking pictures."

You and your friend relay the message to the others. You are confused. There is a weirdo in the grass taking pictures of doughnuts. This is not your idea of a good Saturday night.
(Like smoking by the kiddie swings is... ???)

He gets up and says again, "Someone left the doughnuts here, so I'm taking some pictures. It's weird, I know. But how many other people do you know that take pictures like that?"

You are a little bit creeped out. He seems genuine and maybe even a bit harmless, but the situation is strange nonetheless. The boy comes at you with his camera, offering to show you the pictures. Your other friends start to walk away, but you feel a little bad leaving him standing there after such a kind offer. You let him approach and show you the photo. He didn't lie. He took a picture of doughnuts in the grass.

"Yeah, that is weird," you mumble. "So someone just left the doughnuts here?"

"Yeah."

"And you didn't eat them??"

"No, I couldn't trust them."

Weird. As he turns around and heads back to the doughnuts you start off to catch up with your friends. You watch him mess around a bit with his camera then start dropping the doughnuts back into their box. He slides the lid over the doughnuts, picks up the box, and starts walking off into the distance. You watch him round the corner and disappear.

Interactive question: How would you have responded upon finding a strange person in the grass photographing doughnuts?

If you have a credit or debit card, or pay by paypal, sellers won't know your age unless you tell them.

And technically you're supposed to be a working professional  What they don't know doesn't hurt them. You pay your dues, register your hardware, and it's that simple. Not that I recommend you circumvent their policies

As a girl who has seen and done many strange things on grass, I cannot judge.

Per the terms, the site is "not directed at people under 13"

The CPS information page has no stipulations regarding age--it only has points requirements. There's really no way for them to check your age, even if they prompt you for it. At no time do you enter your social security number.

Well, I dont want to be dishonest; What is the definition of proffessional? I looked it up, and the dictionary said there was no definition by the powers that be...

It says "Self employed OR a profesional who is directly involved in the creation of images, moving or still" Wording may not be exactly right; what is that "Or" supposed to mean?
